Terms and conditions

Last updated 16 October 2026

These terms apply when you download or use Marshal, make an account in the customer portal, or buy a license. They are an agreement between [Company name] (“we”) and the organisation you use Marshal for (“you”). If you accept them for an organisation, you confirm you may do so on its behalf.

Marshal is sold to businesses and other organisations, not to consumers.

1. The software

Marshal is self-hosted: you run the console on your own infrastructure, and it stays under your control. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use Marshal for your own organisation, or to manage your clients’ servers if you are a service provider, under the edition you are licensed for.

  • Free needs no license and costs nothing: 1 organisation, up to 25 machines and 3 users.
  • Pro needs a license for each console. A license works only on the console it is assigned to.

You may not resell, sublicense or redistribute Marshal, remove or work around its license checks, or use a license on more consoles than you paid for. Marshal remains our property; you get the right to use it, not ownership.

2. Your account

  • Give us accurate details and keep them current, especially the email addresses we send license notices to.
  • Keep your password and authenticator safe. You are responsible for what is done with your account and by the members of your organisation.
  • Tell us at [email protected] straight away if you think your account has been misused.

3. Online licensing

A console you bind to your organisation in the portal checks in with us once a day to receive its license. Each check-in sends the console’s installation ID, its version and the number of customers, machines and users it manages: numbers only, never names. Consoles that are not bound never contact us. The privacy policy says what we keep and for how long.

4. Trial, prices and payment

  • Each organisation may start one 30-day Pro trial from the portal. It ends by itself; nothing is charged.
  • Prices are shown on the pricing page and at checkout, in euros. VAT and other taxes are added where they apply.
  • Payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
  • One-time purchases cover the month or year you pay for and do not renew by themselves.
  • Recurring plans renew automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price then current, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the portal: renewals stop and the license stays valid to the end of the period you have paid for.
  • If we change the price of a recurring plan, we tell you by email at least 30 days before it applies to you.
  • [Refunds: to be decided, for example “Payments are not refundable, except where the law requires it.”]

5. Expiry

When a license ends, Marshal keeps working for 30 days of grace. After that it becomes read-only until a license is added again, or you switch to Free: you can still look, servers still check in and are scanned, but nothing new is installed. Marshal never deletes your data because a license ended.

6. Your responsibilities

Marshal installs updates published by Microsoft and by Linux distributions, in the windows and order you set. You decide which updates to approve and when servers may restart. You are responsible for:

  • testing updates and choosing suitable maintenance windows and health checks for your systems,
  • keeping backups of your servers and of the Marshal console, including its keys,
  • having the right to manage the servers you enroll, including your clients’ servers,
  • using Marshal lawfully and not using it to attack or disrupt any system.

We are not responsible for the content or effects of third-party updates.

7. Support and changes

Support is by email at [email protected], for every edition. Write to us any day, at any hour. We answer every message within a week. We develop Marshal continuously and may change, add or remove features; we will not take away a core part of the edition you have paid for during the period you have paid for.

8. Warranty and liability

Marshal is provided “as is”. We do our best to keep it secure and working, but we do not promise that it is free of errors or will be available without interruption.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profit, lost data or downtime, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it arose (for Free, nothing). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for intent or gross negligence.

9. Ending the agreement

You may stop using Marshal and close your account at any time by writing to us. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, does not pay, or puts our systems or other customers at risk, and will tell you why. Licenses already paid for stay valid unless they were obtained or used in breach of these terms.

If we discontinue Marshal, then before we stop we will turn every Pro license that is paid for and in force on the day we announce it into an unlimited license: one that does not expire and needs no check-in with us, so it keeps working after we are gone.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For significant changes we email account owners at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using Marshal after that, the new terms apply.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of [country], and the courts of [city] have jurisdiction, unless the law requires otherwise.
